Capture One has just released the 16.5.2 update, and despite its minor version number, it brings a bunch of pretty major improvements:
- AI masks for Iris and Eye-Whites
- Target Size in JPG Export Recipes
- Magnified Loupe for Keystone
- Presets in Cloud Settings
- Faster People Masking, Match Look, and Export
- and more!
Let’s dive in and see how all the new features work in practice!
AI masks for Iris and Eye-Whites
Capture One 16.5.2 has introduced more precise AI masking options for eyes. Instead of a single “Eyes” option, you can now create AI masks specifically for the Pupil and Iris and the Sclera (the white part of the eye).
BTW, my Adaptive Styles are fully compatible with the 16.5.2 release, but I’m working on a free update to take full advantage of the new, more precise eye-masking capabilities.
Target Size in JPG Export Recipes
You can now specify a target file size in JPG export recipes:
This feature automatically adjusts the quality settings to best meet your file size limitations.
Magnified Loupe for Keystone
The new magnified loupe view makes it easier to precisely adjust keystone handles.
You can also use the arrow keys to fine-tune your adjustments, giving you more control over image alignment.
Presets in Cloud Settings
You can now cloud sync presets on both MacOS and Windows, with some limitations:
- Guides and Normalize presets are not supported as they are stored as .xml files outside the Presets60 directory.
- Keystone and Purple Fringing presets are not transferable between MacOS and Windows due to compatibility issues.
Faster People Masking, Match Look, and Export
- People Masking is now twice as fast, allowing you to create precise masks in half the time.
- Match Look has also received a significant speed boost, processing 2–3 times faster.
- Exporting is up to 4 times faster for JPG files on Apple M2 Ultra chips.

- New AppleScript “Visible” Property
- Expand Background with Photoroom API (All in One, Studio)
- Background Replacement with Photoroom API on Windows (All in One, Studio)
