Five Capture One features to master on quarantine

So, staying home on quarantine appears to be a great chance to deal with image backlog! I have a ton of unedited images from my travels, and now their time has come. To make editing a bit more challenging, I decided to implement some new editing techniques into my workflow.
If you wish to enhance your processing as well, here are five Capture One features worth to master:

    1. Magnify color grading with curves

It seems that I’ve become a bit spoilt with an easy-to-use Color Balance tool in Capture One. It works perfectly for a quick color grading; however, color channel curves impact your images way deeper, and it’s always a good idea to master color grading with curves.
Here are some useful tutorials to help you with it:

    • Create your Atmosphere with Curves

    2. Even out skin tone in a few clicks

I’m pretty sure you all use Basic and Advanced modes of Color Editor. What about Skin Tone mode?

At first glance, it looks a bit more complicated, and if you’re not really familiar with it – now it’s a great time to fill in this gap!
    Check out these tutorials:

    • How to get uniform skin tones

BTW, Skin Tone works great for non-portrait images as well!

    3. Remove sensor dust using LCC

What if I told you that Capture One offers a tool to clear all the sensor dust in a single click? This magic feature is called Lens Cast Calibration (LCC), and it allows you to use a reference image to remove all the dust from your image. Plus, you can fix color cast and light falloff with it as well.
Unfortunately, LCC requires a special LCC plate to make a reference image:

Still, I think you can order one online from home, and these tutorials will show you how to use LCC in practice:

    • How to get your architecture shots just right
    • Dust removal with the LCC tool (on 25:23 min)
    • 3 steps to fix a blue sky

    4. Automate your workflow with scripts

Scripts allow you to automate tons of action in Capture One (on Mac).
For instance, you can use scripts to compare before/after images quickly, enhance your layer workflow, or find offline files in a single click.

A couple of months ago, I posted a guide to scripting for Capture One. Here you’ll find all the necessary information on how to use scripts and where to find them.
If you have some free time now, that’s a perfect chance to learn something entirely new and make your workflow way more effective.

    5. Master luminosity masking

If you’re new to Capture One and are a bit overwhelmed by a variety of tools here, you might have missed luminosity masks.
This is a mind-blowing feature, but it requires practice. It just takes time to re-think your editing workflow and implement luminosity masks into it. Sounds like a perfect task for our challenge!
Check out this webinar to learn all the features of luminosity masking in Capture One:

    New AI Masking Tool

Have you tried out the new Capture One AI Masking tool yet?
With this tool, you can create complex masks in no time. I’ve put together a detailed guide on how to use it, so you can get started right away.
