Capture One has just released Capture One 21 (14.4). The free update introduces the new Export Tool Tab and Cross Recipe Tokens for multiple recipes. Fujifilm photographers can now change camera settings during Live View. Also, Capture One now supports tethered shooting with Sigma fp and Sigma fp L cameras. Finally, the 14.4 update adds Magic Brush shortcuts, password-protected sharing, and boosts catalog performance.
Download Capture One 21 14.4, and let’s take a closer look at all the improvements.

The New Export Tool Tab

The previous update’s radical change in the export workflow resulted in frustration among old-time Capture One users. In Capture One 21 14.4, you can now manually add the Export tool tab that contains tools from the new Exporter:

  • Export Adjustments
  • Export Cross Recipe Tokens
  • Export Format & Size
  • Export Location
  • Export Metadata
  • Export Naming
  • Export Queue
  • Export Recipes
  • Export Summary
  • Export Watermark

Still, the Export tool tab follows the logic of the new Exporter; all export settings are individual for each recipe. That’s why it’s not a comeback of the old-style workflow; however, you can now access export preferences in a tool tab without opening the Exporter window.

Cross Recipe Tokens

Also, Capture One developers have introduced Cross Recipe Tokens that allow you to set universal tokens for multiple recipes.

Subfolder Token

This token allows you to set a universal subfolder for multiple recipes. Simply input text or set a token in the Subfolder field of the Export Cross Recipe Tokens tool. For instance, you can set Recipe name token here:

Next, set the Subfolder token in the Subfolder field of all the required recipes:

Now, all these recipes will create subfolders following the same rule:

If you change the Subfolder value, this will affect all the recipes with this token.

Job Name Token

Job Name token works similarly for setting a universal project naming for multiple recipes.
First, fill the Job Name filed in the Export Cross Recipe Tokens tool.

Next, add Job Name token to the Export Naming of required recipes.

Now, with each new project, you can update the Job Name text to affect naming across all your recipes.

Export Queue

Finally, developers have returned the Export Queue tool to view and manage exporting process.

Tethering improvements

Fujifilm tethering improvements

With Capture One 21 14.4, Fujifilm photographers can now change camera settings in Live View mode.
Also, you can change preferences that are on a physical dial. These settings will return the dial-value after disconnecting your camera from Capture One.

Sigma Tethering

Capture One now supports Sigma fp and Sigma fp L cameras for tethered shooting. Apart from file-transferring and exposure-triggering, photographers can change camera settings from Capture One, access basic Live View, and use autofocus.

Magic Brush Shortcuts

Magic Brush in Capture One 21 14.4 now supports the same shortcuts as the regular Brush for quick adjustments of Size, Tolerance, Opacity, and Refine Edge:

Mac
Size Ctrl + Opt + left-click and horizontal drag (right/left)
Tolerance Ctrl + Opt + left-click and vertical drag (up/down)
Opacity Shift + Ctrl + Opt + left-click and horizontal drag (right/left)
Refine Edge Shift + Ctrl + Opt + left-click and vertical drag (up/down)

Windows
Size Alt + right-click and horizontal drag (right/left)
Tolerance Alt + right-click and vertical drag (up/down)
Opacity Shift + right-click and horizontal drag (right/left)
Refine Edge Shift + right-click and vertical drag (up/down)

Catalog performance improvements

According to developers, Catalog collection loading speed has been significantly increased in Capture One 21 14.4:

  • Up to 600% loading speed boost on Windows
  • Up to 300% loading speed boost on Mac

Password-Protected Sharing in Capture One Live

You can now protect image sharing in Capture One Live with a password.

Capture One Live allows you to share photos online directly from Capture One. Your clients can access shared images on any device using a web browser to view, rate, and color tag them.

The results are synchronized with Capture One in real-time so that you can get feedback on your images without exporting them.
Capture One Live is still in BETA, and you need to sign up to get access to it. According to developers, when Capture One Live goes out of beta, it will be available as an add-on service.
